	<a href="http://www.4wheelsnews.com/category/chevrolet/" target="_self">Chevrolet</a> officially announced today that it will launch a V8 powered, <a href="http://www.4wheelsnews.com/gm-working-on-a-performance-oriented-chevrolet-sedan-as-it-trademarks-ss-ba/" target="_self">rear-wheel-drive performance sedan</a> in the United States and that the new of the new car will be Chevrolet SS. The SS will also make its debut as the next NASCAR Sprint Cup racecar and will hit the racetrack at the 2013 Daytona 500. The Chevrolet SS will hit the showrooms in late 2013 as a 2014 model and according to the press release it will be first rear-wheel-drive sedan for sale in the United States since 1995. The SS designation made its debut back in 1957 on a Corvette prototype race car built under the guidance of Zora Arkus-Duntov with the plan to enter it in the Le Mans 24-hour race.</p>

	After this, the first production vehicle offered with an SS option was the 1961 Impala and Chevrolet built 453 units, each featuring performance upgrades which included a modified chassis and suspension, power brakes, a steering column mounted tachometer and unique wheels and tires. The latest model featuring the SS bagde was the fifth-generation Camaro. The new SS will be a derivative of the rear-wheel-drive architecture that spawns performance vehicles like Chevrolet Camaro and Holden&#39;s upcoming VF Commodore.</p>

	It appears that <a href="http://www.4wheelsnews.com/category/bentley/" target="_self">Bentley</a> has big plans with its upcoming SUV as Car magazine reports that the British manufacturer is planning to enter the 2013 Dakar with a production version of the <a href="http://www.4wheelsnews.com/2012-geneva-motor-show-bentley-exp-9-f-suv-concept-breaks-cover/" target="_self">EXP 9 F Concept</a>. As expected, this move will be made to give its EXP 9 F a 4x4 motorsport pedigree in order to smoothe its arrival. Same sources said that Volkswagen is currently buying back the Race Touaregs used in the Dakar and these vehicles will be updated in order to be ready for competition in early 2013. Although Bentley admitted that the upcoming SUV will not be as good as the Range Rover off-road, the Dakar will definitely help to promote the EXP 9 F. The new vehicles which will be used in the 2013 Dakar will not reveal the final design of the upcoming SUV but will definitely drop hints of how the vehicle will look like. For those who don&rsquo;t know, the Race Touaregs were powered by a 2.5-liter twin-turbo diesel engines delivering around 300 hp, while the Bentley SUV will run a twin-turbo 6.0-liter E12 delivering around 600 hp. The production version will also use a twin-turbo V8 engine with 500 hp, as well as a plug-in hybrid version powered by a V6 engine. A V8 TDI engine is also under consideration.</p>

	Chery Automobile Co. is waiting for the Chinese government to approve a plan to set up a joint venture operation with <a href="http://www.4wheelsnews.com/category/jaguar/" target="_self">Jaguar</a> <a href="http://www.4wheelsnews.com/category/land-rover/" target="_self">Land Rover</a> in China with a 12.1 billion yuan ($1.9 billion) investment. The Web site of China&#39;s Ministry of Environment Protection said that this new plant, which will arise at Changshu in east China&#39;s Jiangsu province, would make as many as 130,000 vehicles annually. Last March, Chery and Jaguar Land Rover signed a deal to create the joint venture. The ministry will evaluate the plant&#39;s potential effect on Changshu&#39;s environment. Before automakers could be permitted to construct new assembly plants, China will need environmental reviews. It&rsquo;s expected that a ruling will be announced by the ministry this month. If this project is approved by the ministry, the company would still need the approval from the National Development and Reform Commission, China&#39;s central economic agency. In 2011, Land Rover sales in China surged by 68% to 34,993 units. Meanwhile, Jaguar sales increased by 58% to 3,897 units, LMC Automotive said. These vehicles were all imported.</p>

	Within the next several quarters, A123 Systems&rsquo; production capacity of lithium-ion batteries will be constrained as it continues to recover from a recall of defective battery packs -- a major factor in its record quarterly loss. A123 Systems said that it has recognized and rectified the root cause of the faulty batteries and was shipping replacement products customers who are affected. In a statement, A123 CEO David Vieau said the company aims to provide replacement products &ldquo;as quickly as possible." He said that the company&rsquo;s customer pipeline stayed strong. Just last week, A123 cautioned that there would be a massive first-quarter loss because of the recall.</p>

	It also said that a lot of the production that would have raised revenue this year will be diverted to replace the potentially defective cells. The company said that recalling the battery packs would cost $66.8 million. The Obama administration had granted $249 million to A123 as part of a program to develop advanced batteries. A123 was a start-up at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It has announced that it is now resuming production at its suburban Detroit plant but this will be regulated.</p>
<p>
	Its first-quarter net loss grew to $125 million, or 87 cents per share, from the past year&rsquo;s figure of $53.6 million, or 51 cents per share. Its revenue declined by 40% to $10.9 million. The previous biggest loss of the company had been $85 million in the fourth quarter of 2011, when it posted a revenue of $40.4 million. After having just reduced it last week, 123 reiterated its outlook for the full year. It now believes that its 2012 revenue would have a range of $145 million to $175 million, a drop from its previous forecast of $230 million to $300 million.</p>

This single occupant transport, which is driven by electricity, could reach a maximum speed of 3.7 mph. The UNI-CUB could be controlled by moving body weight and could turn in any direction, intended to closely replicate walking. The seat has a height of anywhere from 745 to 825 mm. Its height could be made to be the same as the persons around him or her, making this ride similar to walking with people. Beginning in the summer of 2012, Honda will provide UNI-CUB tests at Japan&rsquo;s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in order to test how feasible the device is in the real world. The cars are becoming consistently more sophisticated so it&rsquo;s not unimaginable that smaller vehicles could be used indoors and there may be a time in the distant future when people won&rsquo;t have to walk anymore. "<em>From June 2012 until March 2013, Honda will jointly conduct demonstration testing of UNI-CUB with Japan&rsquo;s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation. Staff will perform demonstrations and use the device for making their rounds, while the museum&rsquo;s annual pass holders will have the opportunity to test ride UNI-CUB. In addition to testing the feasibility of using UNI-CUB indoors, this project will explore the practical applications of the device in a wide range of environments within Japan and other countries</em>." said the press release.</p>

The interior features sport seats upholstered in black-and-red Alcantara and leather and interior door trim with decorative red seams. At the exterior, the car features Deep Black Metallic exterior finish combined with flat anthracite film trim, a new set of black wheels as well as a new exhaust system. Thank to the engine and gearbox management, the engine delivers an extra 150 PS. Moreover, a new eight-piston brake system was added. "<em>We are proud of the creativity and achievement of our apprentices</em>," declared Professor Heiko Gintz, who heads vocational training at Wolfsburg. 	3-D projection mapping, as a marketing campaign tool, is fast becoming more popular in North America. This marks the first time that the automaker used this technology in North America. Hyundai could have bought a 30-second commercial but instead, it went with renting the side of a building where motion graphics will be shown like it&rsquo;s a canvas. From the street, it will appear like the building is moving. In addition, Chevrolet and Lexus are using 3-D projection mapping in their North American marketing for the first time.</p>

	Monique Kumpis, senior manager of advertising for Hyundai Motor America, said that this is better than a TV ad since it raises awareness for the Veloster among Gen Y buyers (those born between the early 1980s and early 1990s), a group known to be "skeptical of marketers and ads in general." They&rsquo;re very adept at skipping TV commercials with the use of their digital video recorders. Automakers have used 3-D projection mapping in Europe and Asia for years but it has only recently arrived in North America.</p>
<p>
	These creative projections generate a lot of buzz and this could result to viral marketing with images being shared with friends. Rick Mathieson, a brand consultant and author of The On-Demand Brand: 10 Rules for Digital Marketing Success in an Anytime, Everywhere World, said that automakers succeed in making their brands stand out when they use projection mapping. He further said that it offers a &ldquo;spectacle unmatched in any other medium today" as it gets cited a lot in online videos and commentary. The sale started last Saturday and lasts until May 28. Furthermore, Chevrolet will donate $100 to Cell Phones for Soldiers for every vehicle sold via the honor badge program. 	The Association for European Businesses (AEB) said that in Russia, 266,267 new cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in April. This stands for a 14% increase year-on-year for the month of April. This is slightly higher than the 13% growth rate in March. The rising demand also permitted the association to raise its forecast for yearly vehicle sales by 50,000 units to 2.85 million. In a statement last Saturday, David Thomas, head of the AEB&#39;s autos committee, said that the solid growth of the Russian automotive market persists until the second quarter. He said that even if the rate of the year-on-year-growth stabilizes to lower than 15% in recent months, the company thinks that the AEB full-year forecast for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles must be raised by 50,000 units to 2.85 million.</p>

	Lada sold 50,102 units last month, making it the top-selling brand in Russia. However, its volume declined by 11%. Renault is at No.2 with a 24% increase to 17,914, ahead of Kia&rsquo;s third place with a 23% increase to 17,305 cars. A 10% increase was reported by General Motors Co.&#39;s Chevrolet brand to 17,180 units to get fourth place, getting ahead of Hyundai at No. 5 with 15,734 units, a 6% hike.</p>

	Ford was one of the automakers that increased sales the most last April, increasing volume by 26% to 12,421 units, together with Volkswagen that boosted sales by 82% to 14,768. The Opel brand of GM also had a strong performance with a 23% increase in sales to 7,169 units. Ford sales increased by 8% to 11,479 units. According to AEB, 880,540 units were sold in the first four months of 2012, a hike of 18% year-on-year.</p>

	All the audio systems of Volkswagen can still pick up analogue radio signals of conventional AM or FM. They can also play audio CDs, including MP3 files. Every Volkswagen model comes with an aux-in socket in order to connect external audio devices like an MP3 player or iPod.&nbsp;Every automobile model from the Polo S upwards now has at least six speakers to make the most of the digital audio&#39;s higher quality. The majority of the models will have eight speakers.</p>
<p>
	These devices are connected to a standard RCD 310 audio unit or better.&nbsp;One of the options for upgrade includes the MDI multi-device interface, which enables easy connection of USB sticks or iPods. This can be operated through the vehicle&#39;s audio system. Other options are Bluetooth connection of compatible telephones; audiophile-pleasing speakers and amplifiers from Danish specialist Dynaudio; Bluetooth music playback; touchscreen satellite navigation systems, including with built-in HD memory; and higher-power audio systems with color touchscreen controls and an SD memory card slot.&nbsp;Moreover, buyers of the Beetle models could opt to have an audio system developed with famous guitar and amplifier manufacturer Fender.</p>
