MG Motor UK has revealed that it will participate in the 2012 BTCC Series with a "dream team" of vehicles, constructors, drivers and sponsors. The all-new MG KX Momentum Racing team will use two MG6 GT vehicles prepared by Triple Eight Race Engineering, which is one of the most successful constructors in touring automobile racing. The team will be manned by double BTCC champion Jason Plato with BTCC rising star Andy Neate. Sponsoring the "dream team" are KX energy drink and Tesco Fuels with their Momentum 99 brand. MG KX Momentum Racing will launch at Brands Hatch on April 1, when the 2012 Dunlop MSA BTCC championship season is in progress.

The five-door MG6 GT fastback is the first all-new MG in 16 years. It is developed at the plant of MG Motor UK in Birmingham where final assembly also takes place. With 68 career wins, Plato is the most successful driver in BTCC racing ever. He has achieved the fastest laps the most number of times, and the most pole and podium positions compared to any other driver in the Series' history. He is undeniably the face of British Touring Cars. He is also a well-known and respected TV presenter as well as the newly appointed Director of the British Racing Drivers Club.

Plato has expressed his excitement in his involvement in a brand-new all-British team. He also said that it is "just brilliant" that the renowned name of MG will be back on the race. MG Motor’s Sales & Marketing Director Guy Jones stated that they are "delighted" that the new MG6 will be viewed by millions of enthusiasts in "Britain and beyond," continuing the brand's popular sporting lineage. Triple Eight is headed by Ian Harrison. It is based at Greatworth, only a few miles from the popular Silverstone race circuit. The company has racked up more than 100 BTCC race wins.
