Honda U.S. boss Testuo Iwamura reinstated to firm’s board of directors

A promotion was given to Testuo Iwamura, the boss of American Honda, and he has been reinstated to become a member of the automaker’s board of directors. Last year, Honda sought to streamline its top management from 20 to just 12 directors. This resulted to Iwamura’s removal from the board. The return of Iwamura will help in restoring direct U.S. influence in the board of directors at Honda. In a Feb. 21 statement, Iwamura (who has the current title of senior managing officer) is being promoted to executive vice president and executive officer on April 1.
The company said that Iwamura will enter the boardroom in late June, pending approval at Honda’s annual shareholders' meeting in the later part of June. Spokesman Atsushi Nemoto said that the date of the meeting will be announced later. Nemoto said that Iwamura will retain his present role as president of American Honda Motor Co. and as head of the its North American operations. After the shuffle in June, the board will still have 12 members.
There will also be other changes in Honda’s management. The board will welcome Takashi Iwamura, head of global production, and Yuji Shiga, the chief of operations in Russia, the Middle East and Africa. Shiga will relinquish those duties and will take responsibility of its power products. After Chairman Koichi Kondo departs from the board, this position will be kept vacant. Until Kondo was appointed in 2011, the slot was kept empty since June 2010 with the retirement of Satoshi Aoki.
