Brembo brakes improve due to technology transfer from aviation firms

Due to its work with the aerospace and aviation industries, Italian brake manufacturer Brembo reveals that its main product has improved. The company's director of business development Roberto Vavassori informed the Middle East Automotive Summit in Qatar that the transfer of technology has led to "a better lifetime" of brake discs, reduced the production process as well as improved total performance. In the same event, Harald Ludanek, Volkswagen's head of vehicle prototyping and engineering, commented that the weight might be exaggerated when discussing about how to enhance fuel consumption on future models. He further stated that 23% of a vehicle's fuel consumption depends on its weight, while 75% is due to the aerodynamics, rolling resistance and friction in the electrical system and powertrain.
In addition, Ludanek said that in order to lessen the vehicle's weight, new materials and adapted construction principles must be created. Moreover, Luigi Piero Ippolito, Italian supplier Magneti Marelli's head of product strategic scenario & innovation, informed the summit that worldwide stress to cut vehicle emissions "open the door to a paradigm shift from the autonomous to the cooperative vehicle."
He expects the driver to do fewer complex tasks in future vehicles. Senior director of automotive and transportation V.G. Ramakrishnan at consultancy Frost & Sullivan discussed the role of emerging markets and megacities in the future of the industry. He said that the developing markets are "likely to be at the forefront." He added that these markets are merging public transportation like rail network, bicycles, electric cycles and two wheelers, among others.
