Audi to present LMP1 hybrid race car on eve of Annual Press Conference

Audi Hybrid Race Car

All is set for the launch of LMP1 hybrid race car for the Le Mans 24 Hours! Audi will present the LMP1 hybrid race car at the Munich Airport on the night of February 29, a day before it holds the Audi Annual Press Conference 2012. The company has invited around 300 journalists from around the globe to grace the event dubbed "Looking to the future - tomorrow's automotive technology."The event will be the overture to the company’s much awaited Annual Press Conference on March 1, one of the most important events in AUDI AG's fiscal year.

Meanwhile, the Audi hybrid race car will be racing against other cars in the top LMP1 category of the Le Mans 24 Hours, one of the eight races included in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). To add suspense to the WEC, organizers have slightly modified sporting regulations. In the manufacturers' classification of the top LMP1 category, only the best-placed vehicle of one carmaker will score championship points.

Also, organizers saw it fit to count only the results of six of the eight races - including the Le Mans 24 Hours wherein the points awarded are doubled.  Audi will go head-to-head with Toyota for the World Champion's title in this WEC. On the other hand, a lady will be competing under the hood of the Audi R8 LMS for the first time, in the persona of Cyndie Allemann. The 25-year-old Allemann is racing for Audi customer team Hitotsuyama Racing the GT300 class of the Japanese Super GT Championship. The team, led by Mikio Hitotsuyama, won the Super Taikuyu Series with the Audi R8 LMS in 2011, scoring the car’s 100th victory in the process.
