2013 Vw Golf GTI Cabriolet coming to the 2012 Geneva Motor Show

There will be a new VW Golf GTI Cabriolet to be displayed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, according to an Auto Express report. At the Worthersee tuning event in Austria last year, a soft-top GTI debuted together with an R Cabrio. It is believed that this new model would be the last one for the MkVI Golf, which is slated to be replaced in 2013. This marks just the second time that a Golf GTI Cabriolet is offered. The first MkI version came out in the 1980s. For a considerable amount of time, the GTI’s engine had been available in the Golf Cabriolet and Eos hard-top but a full GTI-spec car wasn’t offered.
Because of this move, UK customers would be able to purchase a ‘proper’ drop-top GTI, with the 208bhp 2.0-litre turbo matched to GTI-specific suspension (including optional Adaptive Chassis Control) and a GTI interior incorporating tartan seats. VW will be using six-speed manual and DSG gearboxes as well as 17-inch alloys. A set of 19-inch Glendale alloy wheels is offered on the Worthersee GTI. These optional wheels are priced at £1,005 over the GTI hatch’s standard Monza 17-inch alloys.
In addition, it has the Edition 35’s LED lights, aside from an aggressive bodykit that comes with bespoke front and rear bumpers and side skirts. It is believed that this car would be an optioned-up production-ready GTI Cabriolet instead of being a one-off show model. It’s likely that the Worthersee Golf R Cabrio would be put into production.
